A processing & bottling company
with a 'cellar door' for the public
"New England Olive Processors" - previously Gwydir Olives Pty. Ltd. is based in Inverell. The company was opened in 1998 and is managed by Wayne Sharp. New England Olive Processors has one of the most modern olive oil production facilities in Australia and is HACCP accredited which means it complies with strict food safety standards. The olives are picked & processed within 24 hours which means that the oil is fresh & retains that all important fragrance & flavour.
Take a tour
For travellers on the Fossickers Way or people living in the region a tour of the purpose built factory can easily be organised by Wayne & his team. The tour takes you through the story of olive oil from the just picked fruit to the bottle and if the timing is right you will experience the fruit being processed & also visit the cellar where this high quality extra virgin oil is stored. The processing plant was imported from Italy where they really know their oils from their oils.
And if you are really keen a visit to a local olive grove can be organised.
Olive oil is nature's health supplement
There is so much goodness in this unassuming little fruit. The much lauded Mediterranean diet involves high consumption of fruits, vegetables, wholemeal breads, cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts, a little lean red meat, fish & poultry & liberal lashings of olive oil. This diet is beneficial in promoting a healthy heart as well as helping to combat ulcers, urinary tract infections & gall bladder problems. Extra virgin olive oil is the highest quality, healthiest & most tasty of the olive oils.
The cellar door
In addition to the fully operational production facility that is also used for contract processing & bottling New England Olive Processors have a cellar door shop where you can buy & sample a range of products.
One great new idea is the Pantry Pack which is a 10 litre drum with a tap. This is a very cost effective option if you are big users of quality 100% Australian extra virgin oil, and shouldn't we all be? You can fill up a smaller bottle for table & cooking use. There is also a 4 litre handy can with pourer as well as the traditional smaller bottles. Also we will continue selling the very popular infused oils.
Organic olives are also available which means that they are grown without pesticides & chemicals. These olives are hand picked & fermented in natural brine.

Additionally there are wonderful olive tapenades available. This olive
'pate' is great on crusty bread, smeared on grilled mushrooms & added to
Italian style dishes & it even adds richness to those Aussie casseroles
which we love in winter.
What can be nicer than creating a Mediterranean style mezze plate as an entrée or as a summer meal. Just add some dips, a tapenade, fresh black & green olives, some salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, perhaps some marinated Persian fetta & some crusty bread & wow, all so simple.
You can also buy local spices & herb mixes as well as chilli & barbeque sauces & we are always adding something new to our shelves.
Skincare Products
And to add to the culinary mix there is a natural range of local olive based skin care products - which could explain why Wayne, our manager, looks so good!
These products will moisturise & nourish your skin in a guilt-free way without those harmful petroleum based ingredients, artificial fragrances, dyes or preservatives.
You can visit the cellar door anytime Monday to Friday between 8.30am & 5pm.
The phone number is 02 6721 2727, or you can check out this website for more
information.
Just remember when purchasing olive oil, it is important that there is a fresh, fruity smell reminiscent of fresh olives, cut grass, fresh nuts or fruit. We are accustomed to paying a premium price for a great wine so we should understand that a premium 100% Australian extra virgin olive oil will be priced accordingly. You will love the difference.
